Achup (“we”, “our”, “us”) provides a mobile app to help manage Njangi (tontine/ROSCA) groups. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
- We collect basic account information (name, phone number) and group records you create (e.g., contributions and payout schedules).
- We use Firebase (Google) to provide sign‑in and cloud storage. We do not sell your data or show ads.
- You can request deletion of your account and data at any time.
Information we collect
- Account data: name, phone number, Firebase user ID (UID).
- Group & activity data: groups you create/join, contribution amounts, payment history, payout order/schedule, balances and related notes you enter.
- Device & app info: device identifiers generated by Firebase (e.g., Installation ID), app version, and basic diagnostics necessary to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you via SMS one‑time password (OTP).
- To store and display your groups, contributions, and payout schedules to you and relevant group members inside the app.
- To send reminders and essential notifications related to your groups (where enabled).
- To protect against fraud or abuse and to provide customer support.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
We process data as necessary to perform our contract with you (provide the app), based on our legitimate interests (security and improvement), to comply with legal obligations, and with your consent where applicable.
Sharing & third parties
- Firebase (Google): We use Firebase Authentication for phone OTP sign‑in and Cloud Firestore for cloud storage. These services act as our processors.
- We may share information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, or the service.
- We do not sell personal data and we do not use advertising networks.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account exists. Backups may persist for up to 90 days after deletion before permanent removal.
Your choices & rights
- You can access and update your profile information in the app.
- You may request a copy or deletion of your data. See “How to delete your account”.
- Depending on your location, you may have additional rights (e.g., to object or restrict processing). Contact us to exercise these rights.
How to delete your account
From the app: Settings → Account → Delete my account (coming soon). You can also email us from your registered email address including your phone number in E.164 format (e.g., +2376xxxxxxx) to request deletion.

Security
Data is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure; we work to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries where Firebase operates (including the United States). We rely on appropriate safeguards where required by law.
Children
Achup is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us to request deletion.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version in the app and update the “Last updated” date.
